Description:
The installation consists of fifteen wooden lattice panels of a separated climbing rose vine crafted out of charred and welded steel, brass braised thorns, and glass roses. It is an abstraction of the movement in time and history of my family members from the past three generations who were either forced to flee in exile all over the world or murdered in what is now called Moldova, the place we all originated from. For the past 150 years, this region has been traded, battled over, and changed hands between five authoritarian regimes. With each new oppressive state, there was another devastating ethnic purge, forcing another branch of my family to flee and seek refuge elsewhere in the world when possible. We see that this pattern is still repeating with the Russian invasions currently taking place in the region.
